it’s 12:30 am and i’m happy to announce that poppy’s sophomore album is finally available for purchase and stream! since i’m waiting for my pre-ordered vinyl, i had to take a listen and this is what i think.
some call poppy the andy warhol of youtube. but really, titanic sinclair is behind what she does.
however, she’s definitely been branching out more in her sound on this sophomore album and collaborating with many amazing artists including Grimes. her songs aren’t generic and lacking variety like the debut poppy.computer. there is a crazy new variety of experimental sounds and pop music that is obviously heavily influenced by jpop on many of them (like a favourite of mine, X, for example sounds much like an alt-idol jpop song) as well as many others have a feel of Lady Gaga’s notable sophomore album Born This Way.
in the end, i’m very satisfied with the album. it’s nothing ground-breaking, but it is a fun new listen if you’re in poppy’s cult or listen to pop music in general.
